LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – American YouTube star Logan Paul on Tuesday apologized for posting a video of a suicide victim in Japan, saying he had made a “huge mistake” and was ashamed of himself.

Paul, 22, whose almost daily video blogs on YouTube have over 15 million followers, apologized for laughing with friends about the body they filmed hanging on a tree in Japan’s so-called “suicide forest” and posted to the video-sharing channel.

Logan deleted the video on Monday after it caused a social media backlash.

“I’ve made a severe and continuous lapse in my judgment and I don’t expect to be forgiven. I’m simply here to apologize,” Paul said in a YouTube video called “So Sorry.”

He said the shots of he and his friends laughing nervously after the discovery of the body were “raw and unfiltered” reactions and that the video should never have been posted or even filmed.

“I’ve made a huge mistake. I don’t expect to be forgiven… I’m ashamed of myself. I am disappointed,” he added.

Logan shot the video on a visit to Japan’s Aokigahara forest on the slopes of Mount Fuji, that is known for its high number of suicides. He promoted it on his Twitter account at the weekend as “the craziest and most real video I’ve ever uploaded.”

Reaction was swift with critics calling the video disgusting and tasteless.

“Paul believes he’s ‘making YouTube history’ by vlogging the body of a young person who died by suicide… You’re not Neil Armstrong bro, it’s simply a thing no one else has been tacky enough to do outside rotten. com circa 2000,” tweeted Caitlin Doughty, a Los Angeles mortician and author of “From Here to Eternity.”

Former “Breaking Bad” star Aaron Paul said suicide was no joke. “You disgust me. I can’t believe that so many young people look up to you,” the actor tweeted to Paul, who he is not related to. “Hopefully this latest video woke them up. You are pure trash. Plain and simple. Suicide is not a joke. Go rot in hell.”

Q: Who cares what this little twit does?

    A: Too many idiots.

This is just more proof that the world is overpopulated.

At what point in time did it become acceptable to do and say anything you want and expect to get away with it by issuing an “Apology”. There was a time when people were responsible for their actions and suffered the consequences of those actions. So in the future do we throw all of our laws and social standards out the window and allow people no limits to do what every they want to do as long as they “apologize” afterwards? I think not. There are still a few normal people in this country that will kick your butt for that kind of stupidity, apology or not.

So are they banning and suspending his account as they did milo

    douche………..

First I 100% agree it was horrible and should have never been posted. But I am so sick of these morons pushing the envelope of moral behavior and then saying ‘I’m sorry’. What a bunch of horse poop. My wife has a saying, “If you have to think about at all, you should not post it.” And she is right. But the fact here is this and other morons DID think about it and still thought it was ok, and then post them.

They are not sorry even a little bit. They are upset because they look bad not because of what they did. In the end most of these piles of poop end up using the notoriety to expand themselves.

I for one am completely used up by this. I have no more forgiveness for them at all. You made your bed not fester in it.

Ah yes, the rabid hordes accusing him of having no empathy while simultaneously demanding his head. I’ve never even heard of this guy before, but I watched the video in question and he is clearly in shock. He shouldn’t have posted the video, but only because of the wave of caveman backlash from the masses. If he had filmed a muslim illegal immigrant drowned on a beach in Turkey, they’d be nominating him for a Pulitzer right now.

This was no “mistake”. This was an action reflective of his character at this stage in his young life. The slamming he’s receiving on his own channel and other social media is well deserved. Hopefully, the consequences will result in a change of character that will serve him well.

People need to relax. This kid and his entourage went to the suicide forest to spend the night because it’s supposedly haunted and they stumbled across a fresh suicide. You can tell they were in shock and didn’t know how to handle it so they said some insensitive things but he did come around in the end when the seriousness of the situation dawned on him. People tend to pile on top of misery, let it go.

Feel sorry for rich liberal actor that has no moral sense of clarity to the value of life for he never learned it from school or his own family. He has no feeling to the sadness suicide generates in people that loved that person and will miss them in life. He used Hollywood attitudes to make this video thinking it was cool. He is a sad person because he has little understanding to the value of life.

  • Numerical Logic

Really they don’t, and what other good ad truthful “go to news” is there really?

“Reaction was swift with critics calling the video disgusting and tasteless.”

Showing this video is considered disgusting and tasteless, however our society glamorizes wanton sex with multiple partners, alcohol and drug abuse, and uninhibited greed, to name just a few vices.

What a screwed up civilization we are, and a screwed up world we live in.

“For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age”
    Titus 2:11-12

  • Mike Drop

Perhaps he should film his own suicide.

    • Savatage64 (Always Deplorable)

A little bit of internet fame… A little bit of crossing the line… A “so sorry” video to smooth things over…
      Nothing to see here….. Pfffft!
