President Trump is taking another step to promote transparency, saying he would be inclined to permit the release of a memo written by Democrats pushing back against allegations of FISA abuses.
White House spokesman Raj Shah made the announcement Friday, saying the President would support releasing a document detailing the Democrat perspective.
He added, so long as the response went through an appropriate vetting process, Democrats should be given the same opportunity as Republicans.
Meantime, House Speaker Paul Ryan says he’s supporting the release of the Democrat-drafted document, in an attempt to counter the newly-released memo.
Ryan’s spokeswoman made the comments Friday, saying the speaker is in favor of greater transparency, so long as it goes through the proper safeguards.
Her comments come in response to the House Intelligence Committee releasing the Republican-drafted memo, while voting-down a release of a document drafted by Democrats.
Ryan cautioned Republicans Friday not to overplay the findings of the memo, and to resist tying it to special counsel Robert Mueller.
