Security officials in the U.K. warn the nation’s prisons are turning into havens for radicalization and terrorist ideologies.
This comes after security sources recently reported a rise in the number of confiscated Islamic books in U.K. prisons.
Since last July, the British Ministry of Justice has discovered 56 books containing extremist material in the possession of inmates.
The head of Islamic studies at Quilliam International said their are several confirmed cases of teenagers who went to prison on petty crimes and came out radicalized, posing a greater threat than before the served time.
Officials say Islamic recruiters seek to capture the hearts and minds of people in — quote — “ungoverned spaces in British jails.”
