The Senate Intelligence Committee wants Facebook and Twitter officials to testify in its investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
Committee Chairman Richard Burr says it’s a matter of “when” the companies will be summoned rather than “if.”
This comes a week after Facebook revealed a pro-Kremlin organization bought $100,000 worth of ads on the platform during the 2016 election.
Russian operatives also organized anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim rallies through Facebook events, but Facebook did not disclose.
This only pushing a deeper inquiry into the social media companies by lawmakers since the ads are “only the tip of the iceberg.”
