Florida Senator Marco Rubio is continuing his efforts to protect Venezuelans here in the U.S.
According to reports, Rubio wrote a letter back in March asking then DHS Secretary John Kelly and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to extend temporary protected status for Venezuelans.
This comes as the South American country battles an ongoing political, economic, and humanitarian crisis under the regime of President Nicolas Maduro.
The move suggested by Rubio would conflict the president’s immigration policies, but would be consistent with the administration’s rebuke of Maduro.
Earlier this month, reports surfaced a Venezuelan was plotting to assassinate Rubio who is a vocal opponent of the Maduro regime.
