A school district in Indiana is moving closer to arming its teachers with guns.

The superintendent for the Jay School District in Portland, north of Indianapolis, said they purchased guns and have trained dozens of teachers and staff.

The district has also installed safes throughout its schools to safely store the firearms.

The move comes months after the Florida school shooting, which left 17 students and staff dead.

The district is expecting the school board to adopt the policy later this month.

If approved, Jay schools would be the second district in Indiana to arm its teachers.
