U.S. officials are reportedly gearing up to review the Trump administration’s Afghan strategy.

According to reports Tuesday, the White House may soon order a formal review of the plan within the next few months.

Senior officials say they want to examine how much progress has been achieved under the strategy implemented last August, which aimed to force the Taliban to open peace talks.

The president has voiced criticism of America’s longest war, and has repeatedly vocalized his desire to pull out of Afghanistan.

Officials say the Taliban is expanding in rural areas, and a new strategy would seek to break the stalemate in the country.
