A new report claims former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos prompted the investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election.
In the New York Times report released on Saturday said in May 2016, Papadopoulos was drinking at a London bar and spoke with a high-ranking Australian diplomat.
During their conversation, Papadopoulos told the diplomat, Russia had political dirt and thousands of emails on Hillary Clinton.
Australian officials then informed their U.S. counterparts about his comments.
The Trump administration has said the former adviser played a minimal role in the campaign and the transition.
Papadopoulos pleaded guilty in November for lying to the FBI.
