OAN Newsroom

President Trump signs an executive order on health care taking his first step to fulfill his promise to overhaul the health care system.

Speaking from the White House Thursday, the president said the order would lower insurance premiums and allow people to buy cheaper insurance with fewer regulations.

He added, the current health care system has destroyed everything in its wake and crippled the market.

The president went on to say Thursday’s order is a crucial step in saving millions of Americans from the nightmare of Obamacare.

He’s influencing Congress, in his own way. What’s he suppose to do with the never Trumpers that will allow this country to fall rather than do what they promised when they were campaigning?

  • jvlewis

He is not superseding the constitution. He has done what he can and is forcing Congress to do something.

  • Shane Norkus

It certainly isn’t President Trump. He’s doing his damnedest to abolish that monstrosity. We need to replace both Ryan and McConnell, then purge the party of the weak – RINOs, moderates and independents.

  • jvlewis

Trump is doing what he can. We the voters need to get the RINOs out of Congress.

  • jvlewis

The businessman is getting things done in spite of Congress inability to do so.

  • jvlewis

It’s a precedent set by the previous administration. Obama made eo changes to the hc law numerous times and not a word from the msm. Now when Trump does it the sky is falling.

  • jvlewis

We’re already moving into single payer at warp speed. Trump is trying to stop that.

  • TravelInfo2Go

Trump is a business man who is extremely successful. He receives no salary for being president. So politicians today do not govern they enrich themselves with the tax payers money. Healthcare is simple but these politicians have made it so complicated because of the earmarks and “pork” they have inserted in the legislation to enrich themselves. “Sign it first then see what is inside” – paraphrase from our dear friend Nancy P. The good ole boys in DC stand to loose fortunes in illegal business dealings. Trump is a great president up against politicians who have been vacuuming money from the taxpayers for years. The liberal media have virtually started a civil war in the US with all the fake news and unfounded racisism. May the force be with Trump! What a man.

  • Ray

Way to go Mr. President! BUT, I’m sure the left will try to stop it in court. Meanwhile, will someone please get The House & Senate to join in already!

    • Jake

That someone doesn’t exist. It takes a country, maybe next election.

  • …remain calm and return fire

of the entire GOP mob, ONLY TRUMP has the b@lls to execute this EO to undo what Obama deviously did

    • Jake

You didn’t see McCain in the picture?

      • …remain calm and return fire

        McCain is MIA, again.

        • Jake

Hostage to the media and his own ego.

        • cacknballs

don’t worry too much about mccain. he’s not long for this world.

  • John

With some verve and some grains of salt I have supported our President. Doing anything without completely negating/ending/repealing ‘the health care initiative’ ala obama is pressing our heads lower and lower into A BOW. The act was passed illegally, haphazardly, and in open ignorance of what it contained. Mr. President; you have many tic marks in your favor, but this is A BLACK MARK ON YOUR RECORD, REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU THINK NEEDS TO BE DONE RIGHT NOW, YOU HAVE NOT TAKEN THE SHACKLE FROM OUR NECK…. AND BY YOUR OWN ACTION ARE STRENGTHENING THAT SHACKLE AND ADDING WEIGHT TO IT. Need I say that the next persons we don’t all trust NOW HAVE MORE imputent impetus toward burdening us by throwing crap at our lives toward their own ends and gaining foothold with what sticks. ..?? Even though I recall a question in an interview along the lines of “can you be wrong?,” I say ‘take another look.’ Be the first President to immediately back off of an executive order for a better proclomation/order/mandate. You promised, Donald. I said all this because I KNOW you are someone of high calibre, and I will say you have genuinely brought some hope. I am not yet tired of WINNING Sir! God bless America and you.

    • Jake

If the right thing can’t be done, then why not do the things you CAN right? This may not be what the founders wanted, but it’s not illegal. And with Rand Paul it’s not been done haphazardly nor in ignorance. And yes, our shackles remain, but what else can they do?

      • Lawmadsen

I agree, don’t give up the overall fight because the knockout punch is not presenting itself, take the shots you can get and the knockout will come.

        • John

If it remains, we lose. If people become satisfied with the ‘new plan,’ they will forget how it got wrongly put into place. Then that can be done over and over again.

      • John

This is a case where the right thing MUST be done, or it paves the way for any law to be thrown on us against our will, no matter what we vote for. This is exactly what was intended.

  • airstart

Too bad he can’t temporarily (until the next congressional elections) abolish congress with an executive order.

    • John

NOTHING is impossible as long as it is done legally, like; making sure news organizations are not lying to us.

  • xmisterx9

cracknballs… I hope that you know that Executive Orders have been used by all recent Presidents and are a constitutional action. We don’t need a king… we just needed a President that loved our nation more than Iran, the Muslim Brotherhood and domestic terrorist groups.

    • Texas Don

      Well said.

    • airstart

      Don’t feed the trolls

  • xmisterx9

Another accomplishment by President Trump without the help of his own party.
Libs claim that he has done nothing but, as usual, their sources are bad.
BTW General Kelly was impressive in the conference and proves that President Trump has surrounded himself with good people.

  • Akjustice

HERE YOU ARE…I’ve been looking all over for you. We were supposed to hang out on CNN together and what do I find, you are over her cheating on me. If this is the way you are going to treat me then….good bye

  • Akjustice

    Thank you President Trump.

  • Akjustice

Okay, that’s great! But exactly what did the executive order say? I mean, what did he do? I’m not trying to put the president down, I’m just asking a question here. So what is the executive order about? Okay, I get it, it’s going to save Americans millions of dollars. But again I say, what is it going to do, how is it going to save us millions of dollars?

    • CDG

From Whitehouse.Gov. Doesn’t sound like it will actually do much. Ultimately, Congress needs to change the Obamacare laws on the books.

      • President Trump signed an Executive Order to reform the United States healthcare system to take the first steps to expand choices and alternatives to Obamacare plans and increase competition to bring down costs for consumers.

      • The order directs the Secretary of Labor to consider expanding access to Association Health Plans (AHPs), which could potentially allow American employers to form groups across State lines.

o A broader interpretation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) could potentially allow employers in the same line of business anywhere in the country to join together to offer healthcare coverage to their employees.

 It could potentially allow employers to form AHPs through existing organizations, or create new ones for the express purpose of offering group insurance.

o By potentially making it easier for employers to band together, workers could have access to a broader range of insurance options at lower rates in the large group market.

o Employers participating in an AHP cannot exclude any employee from joining the plan and cannot develop premiums based on health conditions.

      • The order directs the Departments of the Treasury, Labor, and Health and Human Services to consider expanding coverage through low cost short-term limited duration insurance (STLDI).

o STLDI is not subject to costly Obamacare mandates and rules. One study found that on average STLDI costs one-third the price of the cheapest Obamacare plans.

o Despite its low cost, STLDI typically features broad provider networks and high coverage limits.

o The main groups who benefit from STLDI are people between jobs, people in counties with only a single insurer offering exchange plans, people with limited coverage networks, and people who missed the open enrollment period but still want insurance.

      • The order directs the Departments of the Treasury, Labor, and Health and Human Services to consider changes to Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs) so employers can make better use of them for their employees.

o HRAs are employer-funded accounts that reimburse employees for healthcare expenses, including deductibles and copayments.

o The IRS does not count funds contributed to an HRA as taxable income.

o Expanded HRAs could potentially give American workers greater flexibility and control over how to finance their healthcare needs.

      • Akjustice

Thank you very much for digging that up. My comment was more directed to the author of the article which was extremely short on details. Again thank you for the information I read it with great interest.

      • Jake

Ditto thanks, I’m tired of only reading soundbites and headlines.

        • CDG

No problem. Have a great weekend.

  • RMCS Ret.

I don’t understand why the heck we are still wrestling with the ACA. Everybody knows it’s a failure; democrates, Republicans, John McCain, the two (I can’t call them what I want to call them) from Maine and Alaska, and the citizenry at large. What’s so hard to understand. Repeal the thing and get the government out of health care. A look at the countries that have had government controlled health care for awhile tells you that. Read the foreign papers and see the complaints. It ain’t that hard, they are all available in English and free on the net. I seriously doubt if our elected representatives are a smart as they are given credit for. No, I don’t doubt it, I know it.

    • jvlewis

Lobbyists in the pocket of the RINOs is what is holding this up.

  • Elizabeth A. Parks

I’m glad he found a way to start the process. I don’t think this is the first, I remember an executive order signed early on that said to give relief to those having to pay for O care.

  • Jim Harsh

I am so proud of our president,
    Thank you so much..

  • 808Americans

“This is a big fu***** deal!”

Credit where credit is due Mr. President. (salute)

But seriously folks; All well and good but executive orders are only as good as the president behind the desk.
This is good but I would love to see “law(s)” with teeth.

To “bar the doors” if you will.

    • Butthep

Tell RINO like John McCain, Susan Collins to stop working for Democ-rats.

  • ginjit.dw

    Bravo….congress is spineless and useless…

  • j jones

Correct mr , did not Trump during the election say to his supports that all OB did was approve executive orders, well lets see Trump will surpass OB on EO soon so another lie but the liar in command, and yes Trump said over and over he would be to busy to play golf he has surpassed both Bush and OB on that score

  • brad m

No government aide l/money should go to illegal aliens. They are here illegally. The citizens should be helped before the non citizens also.
As far as the EO, as long as it doesn’t violate the checks and balances powers and the Constitution, then ok

  • Andrew Moore8

obummer who? What did he do for America?

  • Bonnie Caarol

both standard health care and Medicaid should be for legal residents and citizens only

  • Michael Durkin

    Next step, repeal!

  • ShemSilber2

It is a step in the right direction to be getting rid of ObamaSnare. HalleluYAH for the Master Yahusha (Lord Jesus) for having mercy on us to give us a little relief from the abominable DNC, amein.

  • Dave Steere

GREAT AGAIN! So glad the president is now vetting EO so to eliminate lawsuits! So proud of our president!

  • Pezgun

While this is a great move on the Presiden’s part, we all know what comes next by now. I can’t wait to see what Obama judicial plant comes up with an order to try and stop this. It won’t work, but they’ll try and then we’ll have found another one. The progressive ‘house-of-cards’ is coming down! By the time the Deep State figures out what a mess they’re in, there will be nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. That’s how it is with failed coups.

    • scottincary

I wonder what will be the basis of the lawsuits – it’s an existing law that was not repealed. If I understand correcttly, it’s just the executive’s interpretation of the law is now broader….and in fact I think I remember when groups/associations could offer health insurance – I remember in the 80’s a professional group I was a member of offered a health insurance plan – I didn’t buy it – instead I got a BCBS plan for $45/month

  • Mark Heinzen

A step in the right direction.

  • anotherday

    Where’s McConnell and Ryan?
Rand Paul is in that photo. Not them.

  • Norman Provencal

Equal Health care for all politicians via the PEOPLE!

  • willnkc

Yes! If congress won’t end this scam, Trump will! I’m liking him more everyday!

  • A marcus Young

We have some dishonest people in Congress who mis-represented themselves by pretending to favor a political ideology. After those impostors were elected they preceded to act in support of the opposition. Giving the President the power of Executive Proclamation is just another thoughtful check in the balance of government our founding fathers placed in our Constitution, They knew first hand the tricks of tyrants. As in the electoral college prevented the illegal immigrant from voting, the executive order stopped a few impostors from tyrannical control over the people. We shall NEVER let the Democrats change our Constitution. It is a precious gem in the midst of dictators that prevents them from mutiny. Witness the perfect design that our founding fathers gave us.

    • Tim maher

      Yeah. They are called Rinos.

  • Disgusted Caucasian

This will be challenged immediately and tied up in court for years just like so many other EO’s from this President. Just another way for the demonrats and traitor R’s to destroy trump’s Presidency at our expense.

    • If they continue to do that crap, there may never be another Democrat elected to any office in DC. The people are largely fed up with the way the Democrats have been sneaking socialism and communism into our legal system.

      • Tim maher

Hear, hear. We just have to get people to open their eyes and see what is happening.

  • nomark

The key to this issue is who/what opposed the purchasing of health insurance across state lines? How can anyone oppose that? (We need this for auto insurance as well.)

Why does it take an EO for such a simple solution?

Who was blocking this and why?

I’ve never seen an answer to these questions.

    • Chris

You can already buy auto insurance across state lines. Health insurance on the other hand had to be purchased in the state that you lived. So now we may see a little gecko type offering healthcare that can save you 400 dollars in less then 15mins.

      • nomark

Not exactly. In my state (Nevada) you have to buy from a Nevada licensed insurance salesperson. Even with a big multinational company, same coverage, but different agent jacked my rates when we moved to Nevada. (One of my pet peeves with Nevada, the workmen comp is also very expensive.) When I was in Arizona you could buy from anyone. When I was in Texas you could buy from anyone and the price was much cheaper than Arizona or Nevada.

I don’ t know the details of why, but same car, same driver and it was cheaper in Texas.

        • Chris

Yeah I lived in las Vegas NV just 2yrs ago and my insurance was higher too. I was told by the insurance company it was because I lived in Vegas that my insurance was 15% higher because of so many traffic accidents in Vegas. And it’s true in Vegas auto body shops are like farmers here in the Midwest praying for rain because they know there will be a lot and I stress a lot of fender benders. The roads get really slick like ice.

    • Disgusted Caucasian

The insurance companies that own the leadership in the House and Senate.

  • ChicagoHOG27 .

    Four things:
    – I think President Trump has been awesome – he has a titanium set of basketballs.
    – Whomever is in charge of optics forgot to add a minority or two to the pic – though it shouldn’t matter
    – Unfortunately, it’s just an executive order, and can be tossed out by another president
    – and WHY do we still have any Obama-era officials working in the Executive Branch?

    • Disgusted Caucasian

You won’t find many minorities that will get behind this because most all are communist Trump haters.

      • nomark

There are many. No, not a majority, but they are not all communists and many are very big Trump supporters in the minority demographic.

  • John Smyth

hopefully the order allows insurance companies to sell policies across all state lines

  • neergb2000

Does this mean we are going to hear more Fake Healthcare fact drivel from sexual harasser and hypocrite Jimmie Kimmel?

    • Sheriff Bart

I will only hear him on this page because like many of us, we don’t bother staying up that late or DVR-ing that nonsense. it is fun to know that they’re squirming.

  • Shane Norkus

Just repeal the damn thing. It was enacted unconstitutionally.

An executive order can be repealed by another Administration, so we need something just a bit more permanent.

Defunding DumboCare is a great way to start. No taxpayer-funded mandates = no money = IMPLOSION.

    • A marcus Young

Trust me after you realize how the Democrats were scamming America they will never work in this country again. Its time to bury the Democrat party and its racist history with its rebel flag and confederate statues. Lets put up some Union hero flags and statues.

      • Texas Don

Careful there, be real careful. Keep your yankee flags up north, and you can keep the Democrats up there to.

    • One800dave

Don’t worry. This is a good start. Congress will make it permanent later.

    • One800dave

Don’t worry. This is a good start. Congress will make it permanent later.

      • Shane Norkus

Haven’t we been hearing that since 2010? I’ll believe it when I see it.

As long as leftist-idiots like McCain, Murkowski, Collins, sometimes Paul, Grahamnesty and Alexander are still Senators, nothing’s going to change.

        • Cheryl the Deplorable

you’re probably right but I hope you’re wrong.

          • Shane Norkus

I am. We gave them control of the House in 2010, the Senate in 2012, a majority in both houses in 2014 and the Presidency in 2016 and ‘they keep kicking the can down the road.’

President Trump has asked for more fiscal and conservative representatives, and we’ve given them to him but, as we’ve seen first with John Boehner, now with Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell, they really don’t want to do what’s necessary for Americans.

We need new fiscally and socially conservative leadership, so McConnell and Ryan have to go. They don’t need to resign, just step aside, and let new blood in, with the will to fight for what’s right.

        • xmisterx9

I agree about McCain, Collins and a few others are obstructionists, but Rand Paul’s opposition is based on wanting real change instead of half baked change that the current leadership is proposing.

          • Shane Norkus

I’ve got a long memory, remembering his father who was always a reliable NO vote on ALL tax hikes, so I’m torn between what Papa believed and what son says he believes.

Rand’s been all over the place, so I don’t know what he believes.

    • Big Al from Big D

Congress tried to have it repealed and McCain and 2 other turn coats helped the liberals kill the repeal.

  • Roy Beane

Now if McConnell and Ryan and the rest of their crowd in Congress will ever get off their dead arses and get to work, …….. nah that won’t happen, they’re too busy trying to sabotage everything Trump tries to do. Well, Nov. 2018 will see a lot of that bunch get their heads handed to them by the voters!!!

  • Gabe Santiago

What sold Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) and me on this E.O. (executive order) is the promise of allowing small companies to pool; allow for the purchases of low-cost insurance policies; and my absolute favorite: allow policies to be purchased across state-lines! If interstate purchases was all that was in this E.O., that alone would make it worth it. Nothing brings cost down more than interstate competition. It’s a ‘no-brainer’; something the Obama administration could’ve easily done during his presidency. It, however was never his priority to lower cost, but to control people’s lives; i.e. socialism. Now all Congress has to do is make this permanent!

    • A marcus Young

CAPITALISM and FAIR COMPETITION will save the day.

I say not only do that but make them work for no pay at all till the national debt is paid off their salary goes to debt repayment since it has been their policies and agendas and their lack of addressing it that has caused it.

AND LEAVE THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS OUT OF IT!

  • Eric

Will Congress continue to be exempt?

    • The way they have traditionally cranked out legislation that includes exemptions for themselves from the grief they impose on the rest of us, unless some miracle happens, they won’t be changing any time soon. They won’t legislate term limits, but they can certainly be cut off in the primary elections.

    • A marcus Young

They will not want to be exempt. The new health care will, through competition, lower health care costs, and leave the price gougers at the mercy of justice. Everyone but illegal immigrants will win.

Your $700 a month for your Family is cheap Bozo. My cost in Individual market for just me is $2006.86 a Month in 2018. Doesn’t change the fact there are zero details in the article above. Good thing you’re not here Keyboard warrior, you’d be spitting out teeth.

Need a heck of a lot more details. It’s not even showing on Foxnews, altho I heard Hannity discussing it with Newt. Encouraging that Rand Paul was involved.
