As the nation’s longest war continues in Afghanistan, President Trump is reviewing the Pentagon’s proposed strategy to break a stalemate against the Taliban and al-Qaeda.

On Monday, a defense official said the department’s working on a process that is being guided by the White House.

They’re reviewing how several aspects of national power like the military, intelligence and finances will contribute to their goals in ending the country’s war.

Defense Secretary James Mattis had promised a plan by mid-July after a request for more troops.

However, officials say he wants to make sure the strategy is right before fulfilling that call.

  1. When we started there the strategy was good. Send enough troops, keep airplanes overhead so GPS bombs could be called down as needed, and rule the skies. Now we have MOABS that can be dropped on enemy concentrations. We can fight at night better than anyone, from the individual soldier to our helicopters and other aircraft. Unfortunately there will be fatalities and bad press from the loony left. Will Trump let the generals fight their war? If not pull out now!

  2. We need a ruthless Saddam type dictator to rule there. We just have to make sure they do not tolerate Wahhabi terrorist extremists. Once somebody is established with a police network in place, we can pull out. If our monitoring indicates the presence of any ISIS types we simply bomb a few high officials to signal our displeasure. It’s not pretty but it will end the problem. Think Libya. What would have resulted if, instead of supporting the rebels, we carpet bombed them? An unpleasant but stable regime with zero alQaeda presence!

13 years and counting and what have we accomplished? Nothing. Get out and let them kill each other instead of our sons and daughters.

    Thank you President Trump🇺🇸
After 13 years we should know our enemy well…

  6. I don’t think we ever did have a strategy – just a bunch of career military dudes rotating in and out getting their tickets punched for their next promotion. Been that way since we were “Way down yonder in Viet Nam”.

      Got that right.

    • We had a strategy. The problem was that is was (and is) stupid. It’s called nation building and involves exporting democracy. In a total misread of our experience in occupying Japan and Germany we thought we understood how to remake foreign societies in our image without assuming total control for 20+ years. We also failed to understand how important a factor was the population being tired of war and huge casualties. Bloodless wars can be self defeating because the defeated population retains its will to resist.

  7. Trump will go back to the WH and get out his toy soldier snd solve the problem

    • Toy Soldiers was a good wholesome christian kidfriendly movie

      • But not if you are a POTUS facing a resolved enemy and a war going on 14 years, get real

        • but honor & integrity are values that jesus instills in us still to this day so 14 yrs is NOTHING in jesuses’ eyes thats like a blink of an eye to him my friend. come to him and u will know PEACE.

      • Trump is a movie how about a horror story

The only strategy we need for Afghanistan is how to get out safely and quickly. Let these worthless ragheads solve their own problems. They mess with us we bring out the big guns and flatten the whole place.

    Get the Troops home.

  10. Since McCain thinks he is the president and stated he would do something about it, by the time he is able to send his next stupid tweet…this should be taken care of by our President Trump.
