President Trump calls on Congress to set aside differences and put the country first.
During a meeting at the White House Wednesday he met with eight Democrat and five Republican House lawmakers.
The president doubled down on his promise to cut taxes for the middle class, and lower the corporate tax rate to encourage companies to come back to the U.S.
He said he will continue to work with lawmakers from both sides of the aisle, and said they can all agree on a tax overhaul that’s pro-growth, pro-family, and pro-American.
The president also briefly discussed infrastructure investment, health care, and immigration.
Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is confident congressional Republicans will release a tax reform plan and produce legislation in the coming weeks.
Tax reform was a significant issue that President Trump and many Republican lawmakers promised to voters.
Ryan said he does not want a repeat of what happened with the failure of the GOP’s health care bill.
The House speaker says he’s confident in the GOP’s ability to get tax reform passed this year.
