Republicans on capitol hill are doing all they can to help jump start construction of President Trump’s border wall.

The House GOP stripped a provision in the annual defense bill proposal which banned the Pentagon’s funding from being used to build the wall.

After an eight-to-four committee vote the provision will be taken out of the National Defense Authorization Act when congress adopts the rule on Wednesday.

More than one billion dollars is being added to the bill for construction costs, and more border agents.

With funds for the proposed wall now in the budget, the president is another step closer towards fulfilling one of his biggest campaign promises.

I’ve got mixed emotions about “the wall.”

    1. It’s going to cause a lot of problems for ranchers in South Texas and their access to water.
    2. There’s going to be a lot of eminent domain problems.
    3. It’s going to be horrendously expensive. Some of the terrain it will have to be built in is super inhospitable. See S. Ca. Sdiego east to El Centro.

    4. I’m not sure how effective it will be. See Great Wall of China.
    5. There are less expensive, more effective, though less politically correct ways of achieving the objective.
Example: At some commands I served at, certain areas were marked with a red spray painted circle, others had a fence. All had signs and Marines. Signs said “Deadly Force Authorized.” The Marines where there to enforce the sign. To the best of my knowledge nobody ever crossed the red line unless it was one Marine relieving the other Marine.

This is after all, a sovereign nation and have every right to protect our borders.

Even with Trump at the helm of this nation with the nation finally on the road to recovery, the stench of what Obama believed in and still does actually, remains on the horizon. It remains out there like some kind of disease that won’t go away.

    • andrew moore

It’s called liberal progressivism…..That is why I am a liberalodium.

  • Patrick J

Not to put things too simply, but the immigration problem we have simply means someone is not doing his job. We already have immigration laws on the books that state clearly what we do with people from other countries who sneak over our southern border. I hope most of you understand that here. Obama, the absolute most worthless president this nation ever had, just said, “those laws don’t matter, because we are not going to enforce them.”

I’m not just making this up for fun. He actually said that.

    • RMCS Ret.

You are correct, there are existing laws on the books that, if enforced, make if very hard for an employer to hire, even under the table, an illegal alien (I refuse to call them undocumented). There are required records, SSN requirements, and a host of other requirements, for each and every employee, legal or illegal, all of which are ignored. The even encompass Federal inspection of your records. Back in the early 80’s I had visions of starting a small business. Once I read all the employee related record keeping requirements, I said it ain’t worth the trouble and went to work for somebody else.

  • Skynyrd

How did that provision get there in the 1st place?????? Go Trump!

  • andrew moore

Just a thought here….but isn’t building a wall and removing the illegal immigrant kind of like trying to cure the plague without removing the source of the illness….Think about it…..the plague was actually caused by the bite of a simple flea….but instead of removing the source of the infection, the flea, instead man tried to cure the symptoms of the plague itself….We are trying to cure the illegal immigration problem by attacking the symptoms of the problem which is the arrival of new illegals….shouldn’t we remove the source of the problem which is the liberal progressive which protects them instead? Once this is accomplished nature will automatically remove the illegal once their protection system is dismantled.

    • Patrick J

I like the way you write, but your comment attempts to reduce the entire problem to a somewhat simple solution, and as both you and I know, there is never a simple solution in the affairs of men. It’s like herding cats. Some will go this way and some will go that way, but absolutely none of them will go where you want them to go. Sadly, human beings are a lot like those cats. But i’m not hitting on your comment, because it was a good comment.
What I do believe most sincerely, is that perhaps a combination of what I believe in and what you believe in might just work.

We need the wall in the short term. Of that, I am absolutely sure. But we also need what you mentioned in your comment. We need to remove the source of the infection. What the Liberals have done to our country in that area is unbelievable. We are either a nation of laws or we are not. We have to decide as a people what we stand for. That’s the bottom line we face going forward. At least in my humble opinion.

      • andrew moore

Unfortunately we as a people deciding which way to go is going to be more like herding cats than removing the liberal progressive problem….with removing the liberal progressive problem people like you and I are going to be matched against the liberal progressive crowd….a clear line in the sand will be drawn…..You are either over here or you’re over there…..and once that is established there will be no cat herding…..it will simply be a process of which is stronger and smarter and willing to give all that is required. By building a wall instead I see it as wasting valuable wealth and assets which could be used to remove the actual problem which is to remove the liberal progressive from the country….As I see it they can go north or they can go south…..or they can go six feed straight down….their choice.

        • constitutiononly

The enemies of the U.S. come from all directions.

          • andrew moore

You are correct….but the problem that remains and protects thos enemies is the enemy from within….which is the liberal progressive which offers those enemies all the necessities they require….They protect those enemies which invade our country…..Remove that liberal progressive support and you eliminate the ability of those enemies to operate.

    • RMCS Ret.

Removing progressivism is a much larger problem then eliminating the illegal problem. The main financial support for the progressive movement is George Soros. Even the Hungarians know that and the Hungarian Government actively opposes him. Our government doesn’t seem capable of doing the same. Citizen’s, however, can actively oppose him by refusing to do business with any of his businesses. Anybody that has Progressive insurance is a Soros supporter, whether they know it or not.

  • Bill Bates

Put it in, keep it in, voice vote it on the floor (if necessary), publish the names.

The voters will do the rest.

  • Chris U

It’s part of national security to secure the border, that is why the states are NOT in control of borders, it’s in the Constitution, stupid Dems.

the dems just don’t get it.We elected him and we want the wall built. The only thing we can hope for is that the next attack we have, kills one of their family members.Maybe that will wake them up

  • Patrick J

Actually, the virtual wall is already working, even though not a single brick has been laid. The number of illegals coming across the border has already been greatly reduced just by the idea of the wall itself. Also, the illegals who are here are self-deporting because ICE is now free to arrest them and they know it. President Trump knows what he is doing.

    • Jonney Quest

The virtual wall is only an election away from being run down. A physical wall will help slow down the Progressive Democrats demolition of US Borders and sovereignty. Don’t underestimate their hatred of the US.

      • andrew moore

So maybe we should remove the source of the illegal immigrant problem which would be the progressive democrat….That is the true enemy of the country….then illegal immigration would be a thing of the past because with the progressive democrat gone so is their protection.

    • constitutiononly

I hope so. I would like to see data I could believe. Put the arrests and the ‘boots’ on U-Tube news.

      • andrew moore

The wall is on the way dear old Jenny….Another stepping stone has been removed in the path to its accomplishment…..Soon your beloved illegal voters will not be able to gain access the greatest country on the planet….and you my dear are going to be forced back into your dark cave of liberalism to scheme and plot another way to defeat America.

  • Scott

This could be a good thing. Sure would be nice to have a secure border. Or, they could pay retired military to move to the border and keep it safe. I would sign up for that duty. I love this country, and for the sake of our grandchildren, I would like it safe. We could hunt the criminal aliens like prairie dogs, that would curb the numbers a bit.

    • andrew moore

Texas governor Abbot is already using the Texas Guard (not to be confused with the national guard) to help patrol the border.

      • constitutiononly

Problem is, the Texas guard does not get to shoot the illegals and drug runners. And, there are not enough of the Guard.

        • andrew moore

Only if they are fired upon can they return fire….

    • R.L.

I’m with ya brother. Semper Fi

    • RMCS Ret.

A tower every 200 yds with a clear field of fire and authorization to fire at will should do the job nicely. No need for a wall.

      • andrew moore

Are you talking about shooting the illegals or shooting the libtard progressives that are protecting them?

    • constitutiononly

The Texas border would be a good place to train infantry for desert warfare in the Middle East. We really do need forts ON the border. The recruits could use the drug runners and illegal aliens for target practice.

The House GOP stripped a provision in the annual defense bill proposal
which banned the Pentagon’s funding from being used to build the wall. What is this provision, and how did it get there? Was this put in place before Obama left as a trip hazard?

    • Patrick J

The move angered Democrats, who argued Republicans were sneakily eliminating a provision was that included in the bill after a bipartisan vote in the House Armed Services Committee.

“You’re rewriting the bill now to take out a provision that was in the bill that ensured that no funding authorized in the bill will pay for President Trump’s wasteful border wall and the bipartisan language you’re removing was debated, amended and accepted by the Armed Services Committee on a voice vote,” said Rep. Louise Slaughter (N.Y.), the top Democrat on the House Rules Committee.

      • Idothinkso

Note that the provision was voted by voice vote and not on the record. Dems do not dare put their names against the wall as they know the will of the People is for the wall to be built. MAGA.

My my it’s July and not one new demoncrapic seat to add to your beloved party….In fact 5 of the last 5 special elections were won by Republicans….Imagine that….and it’s only July….Imagine what the Republican party will look like by the end of next year….MAGA

      • Nicolet

I am not a Democrat. I supported Trump from the start on the premises of tax reform, the repeal of Obamacare, and the border wall. It doesn’t help our agenda to lie to our selves that progress has been made. Hell, Obama’s ICE director is still acting. From the standpoint of his agenda, very little has been implemented.

        • andrew moore

Apparently you don’t understand the process in which your government must work….And how can you say nothing has been done? A whole boatload of his campaign promises have been kept and accomplished…..Just because the ones YOU think are the most important haven’t come to fruition yet does not mean that they are not in the works and taking shape….The border wall has been released to the public so designers can submit their plans on the types of wall they would build…from there construction costs must be calculated and verified, submitted to our congress to get money approval, and then the daunting task of building the wall can begin….but because of RHINO republican libtards like Tokyo Rose McCain being an obstructionist for his libtard buddies it is taking a bit longer than expected.

          • Nicolet

A whole boatload? We’ve only gotten like 15% of what he promised us! Trump should put down his phone and submit acts (the executive branch can submit legislation to Congress, ya know) to be passed. The executive branch isn’t speeding things up, so thus it shares part of the blame. I think he’s stagnating on his agenda and mindless Trump-is-accomplishing-more-than-any-other-president-his-pace-is-shocking-Washington rhetoric doesn’t help you or me and it most certainly will not help him. Ask yourself, what concrete objective has changed since Obama?

          • andrew moore

I don’t understand your math….Trump has been president for 13% of his 4 year election and you say he has completed 15% of what he has promised…..So based upon the math he is right on schedule to accomplish 100% within his four years….he never promised he was going to get everything done within his first 6 months.

    • andrew moore

We are using all the bricks to build Hitlery’s tomb.

Nicolet….Rome wasn’t built in a day. Give it some time. Illegals entry down, partial travel ban in place. Things are looking up.
