Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced late Saturday night that the Senate would once again delay next week’s planned vote on the Better Care Act. This comes as Senator John McCain (R-AZ) undergoes eye surgery on Friday for a blood clot.
The announcement came via Twitter saying that “while John is recovering, the Senate will continue our work on legislative items and nominations, and will defer consideration of the Better Care Act.”
Senator McCain, who has expressed reservations regarding certain aspects of the bill, is a crucial vote with 50 of 52 GOP Senators needed to pass the bill. He will spend the week recovering at his home in Arizona per doctor’s orders.
McCain tweeted a thank you to the Mayo Clinic for “its excellent care” and said that he was looking forward to getting back to work.
