President Trump is briefed on the false emergency alert that was sent out to residents of Hawaii.
In a statement Saturday, the White House says the president has been updated on Hawaii’s emergency management exercise and added it was purely a state exercise.
Earlier, an alert was sent out to Hawaiians mistakenly warning them of an incoming ballistic missile.
Officials said the mobile alert sent out Saturday was a false alarm and the mistake occurred when an employee pushed the wrong button during a shift change.
Hawaii’s emergency management administrator took the blame for the mistake.
The incorrect alert warned Hawaiians to seek immediate shelter and added this is not a drill and reportedly took 38 minutes for confirmation that it was a false alarm.
Officials said they have suspended the state’s alert system while the issue is addressed.
