Democrats and mainstream media are accusing Republicans of discrediting the Federal Bureau of Investigation in order to de-legitimize the Robert Mueller probe. These accusations come as Republicans seek to learn more about potential anti-Trump bias of investigators and officials involved with both the current investigation and former Clinton server probe. However, Republicans in the House say they aren’t questioning the integrity of thousands of field agents across the country but the leadership at FBI Headquarters in Washington.
“I just went to the FBI office in Indianapolis and saw the men and women on the ground. They’re doing great work. They have the best work ethic. They’re patriotic citizens and they want to uphold the rule of law which is part of our American exceptionalism,” said Representative Todd Rokita (R-Ind.). Congressman Rokita added that he worries about these FBI agents whose good work is being put at a risk by “politicos who are at the top of the food chain in these agencies abusing power.”
Representative Dave Brat (R-Va.) agrees with Rokita saying that he feels that the FBI has a couple of senior level officials who are partisan. “You’ve got an open partisan being hired in all of these key little slots that are partisan and it challenges the credibility of some of the FBI,” said Rep. Brat who found details concerning potential FBI use of the unverified Steele Dossier and anti-Trump texts messages sent by FBI agent Peter Strzok to be major breeches in FBI standards.
Although Congressman Rokita maintains his faith in the FBI as an institution, he fears that corruption in the bureaucratic Washington offices of these agencies is reaching an all time high. “We need to have trust and confidence in these agencies. Here-to-fore we did, but it’s being eroded and it’s being eroded by facts that are being exposed and I don’t think it’s over,” warned the Indiana congressman.
Florida GOP Rep. Francis Rooney said Tuesday in an interview with MSNBC that he wants leaders of the Department of Justice and the FBI to “purge” officials that he says are politically biased against President Trump.
