A 32-year-old firefighter who died battling the Thomas Fire in California’s Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties is identified.

Cal Fire authorities say Corey Iverson died on Thursday while in the line of duty.  Iverson was part of a crew sent from San Diego County to help fight the massive wildfire. He is survived by a two-year-old daughter and his pregnant wife.

Iverson is the second person to die in the Thomas Fire. Last week, fire officials said the death of a 70-year-old woman was caused by smoke inhalation.

As of Thursday, the fire was 30% contained after destroying more than 900 structures and burning more than 242,000 acres, making it the fourth largest fire in state history.

While some evacuations have been lifted, there are still tens of thousands of structures that are threatened by the flames. Meanwhile, a Red Flag Warning from the National Weather Service is in effect through Friday morning.

    RIP my brother….RIP.

Gov. Moonbeam insists the fires are due to global warming. Fact is, in his 8 years as governor he has done nothing to preclude or preempt the spread of massive fires. Plus, rumors have surfaced that the fires were started by the Drug Cartel and one by a homeless person. Sad.

    I’ll pray for the family

Why are the fires out of hand? Did we have “Controlled Burns” to minimize the fuel? Did we cut the dead trees? Is the governor cutting funds for the wrong programs? “The new normal” is his way of justifying his political views!

It’s always political, always blaming someone with you people. Digusting

My father was a Boston firefighter from the old days when the city was a tinder box and he was serving as a bit older during those inner city riots of the late sixties. God bless our first responders and their families that wait at home praying and hoping.

I have the Up-Most respect for Firefighters, They are the true heroes in the world.

While saving you…they don’t care what the color of your skin is or what your religious beliefs are, they run into danger while everyone else is running out. They are HEROES that don’t wear capes.

Everybody should make a basket of goodies and take it to your Fire-station…….
They need to be shown that they are appreciated.♥

Condolences to the friends and families that have lost loved ones in these horrific fires.
God Bless America and ALL Public Safety Workers.

Why aren’t some of the 3 million illegals living in Calif, on the front lines helping put these fires out? It’s because they have nothing vested in this country, other than creating a hepatitis out break in Calif from living in tents, and having no toilets.
Then there’s all the free welfare.

      You love their cheap labor

      • FromThe70s

You in favor of keeping them out?

        • weasel1886

Yes, but American business isn’t and neither is Trump and his Wall St buddies

People who run towards danger so that we’re protected will always have a special place in my heart. My condolences to his families.

Maybe firefighters from other states should boycott CA and let Moonbeam recruit those given sanctuary to be the firefighters.

Two of my sons are LA county. The youngest has been on this fire for ten days straight now. I just pray for his safety. Actually, I pray for all of them. Residents and firefighters alike. There are units there from Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, you name it. All firefighters are brothers. Just ask any of them.

    • LILIBETH

      Amen sir!

    • Twinkle Toes

I will keep him in my prayers.

What a tragedy for that family. They need our prayers to help them through this.
