U.S. authorities have accused Russian hackers of successfully penetrating voter registration rolls in multiple states during the 2016 election.
Head of cyber security at the Department of Homeland Security — Jeanette Manfra — said a “small number” of the 21 states targeted in the efforts were compromised.
The department also said there is no evidence that any of the rolls were altered in any way.
Several of the states targeted by Russians, including California and Texas, have told the media they were never attacked.
Other states said the federal government has not shared much information on the attacks with them.
