A CNN correspondent falsely claimed the “Trump dossier” was funded by the ‘never-Trump’ Republicans.
On Wednesday, Evan Perez said the dossier was paid for by anti-trump Republicans first, and subsequently by the DNC and the Clinton campaign.
However, Perez reportedly has close ties with Fusion GPS, which is the firm behind the fake dossier.
Recent reports revealed ‘never-Trump’ Republicans did fund opposition research on then-candidate Donald Trump, but the work was unrelated to the dossier.
That research took place several months prior to the DNC hiring Fusion GPS to create the unverified document.
“Look, the fact is that the dossier was compiled as part of opposition research, first paid for by Republicans who were opposed to Donald Trump and then later on by Democrats and the Clinton campaign, people associated with the Clinton campaign who wanted to try to bring him down,” Perez claimed.
This marks the third time CNN has broadcast false information on the origins of the debunked dossier.
