When locals learned three militants had been killed, clashes broke out over Indian rule in the region.

Many businesses and shops closed in protest, and officials ordered locals to abide by a curfew.

Most people in Kashmir reportedly want to be a part of Pakistan or become an independent nation.

Nearly 70,000 people have been killed in the region since a rebellion began in 1989.
