The city of Atlanta prepares for the demolition of the Georgia Dome.

The historic stadium, which has hosted two super bowls and the 1996 Olympics, will be torn down on Monday after 25 years of operation.

While some are saddened by its demolition, others are eager to enjoy the new Mercedes Benz Stadium that was built right next door.

The $1.6 billion venue was completed in August, and has already received praise for its state-of-the-art technology and retractable roof.

It will be the home field for the city’s professional soccer and football teams, and will host the super bowl in 2019.

It looks more like a sewage processing plant than a football field to me….

I would be more interested in seeing what the two look like from the air.

I tried but couldn’t find a high altitude picture, only ones taken fairly close up.

        • Give it a few months, but you will be disappointed, maybe not with the facility but the surrounding neighborhood’s that only get worse with time The area is dangerous, they keep thinking that it will revive it, that’s what they said when they built CNN building, Omni, GA Dome, etc… nothing ever changes, it’s worse that when they began.

I figured the neighborhood would suck…most do around sporting arenas.

          • Not all, Lambeau Field is in a pretty good area, there are others. The owners say how much they want to help those in depressed areas but look closer and you will see that as always the saving of a dollar is the final way the decision is made.

  5. PLEASE NOTICE the building looks like it is in an earthquake (about to collapse) compared to the stable looking Georgia dome, many NEW buildings in NYC have the earthquake look !!! looks like pre programming ….just saying

  6. will the new stadium hold 5,000 super bowl fans in 2019?

  7. More taxpayer dollars down the drain. I can guarantee you the citizens NEVER got their money back from the pro-kneelers that used the stadium for profit.

  8. yep the NFL committed suicide….. just a matter of time now.

  9. Bookmark this story and come back in 10 years when the Mercedes-Benz stadium gets demolished to make room for an even bigger, gaudier monstrosity.

The the NFL committing suicide, and guess they can rent it out for birthday parties.

  11. How much did the new stadium cost the
teams that will make the bulk from ticket sales for bringing there
thug felons into play?Who will be paying for the maintenance for both
    it and the surrounding area?

  12. Where will the Ying Yang Twins sleep?

Considering the poison they flung in the air on 9/11 that has already killed about 2,000 people, with another 1,000 or so who will never recover… this should be done one brick at a time. But if they insist on demo, according to NIST, all they have to do is light a fire in the lobby. I will do that for 1.7 million dollars if you like.

The new owner of the twin towers wanted to have them demolished but couldn’t because of the asbestos.

Also Bush’s cousin was in charge of security prior to the attack. More curiosities.

yup, and they got to try out their new directed energy weapon as well. It’s ok to murder thousands… they are only the peasants.

Bring on the gladiators and lions!

  15. What a waste! Cities should STOP wasting all that money on new and unnecessary venues.

    • Oh, they will. The imploding NFL ratings and ESPN ratings will translate into money soon.

    • This wasn’t funded by the City totally, the Federal Government participates heavily in this giveaway by including some of your Federal tax dollars as well! I have to question if the Federal Government participates in funding factories for General Motors or Ford or Harley Davidson, etc.? I seriously doubt that. However they do take taxes from Shareowners of those corporations which are then provided to Billionaire Team Owners in the form of Billion Dollar Stadiums in which their employees can kneel during the presentation if the National Anthem. Something seems is wrong with this picture!
