The Taliban is claiming responsibility for a suicide bombing in Pakistan.
A senior police official and two others died in Thursday’s attack, which happened in a residential area in the southwestern city of Quetta.
At least nine other people were injured.
Officials say the deputy inspector general of police was targeted while on his way to work, possibly for his role in arresting several militants in recent years.
Suicide attacks have accelerated in the southwestern region of Pakistan, endangering a planned economic corridor with China.
In the past six months there have been four suicide bombings targeting security officials in the region.
